MTN 5g vs STARLINK: Which is Better? MTN 5g and STARLINK Reviews

My Honest Review Of Starlink By Elon Musk After Using It For 3 Days

You must have noticed that I’ve not really been active online since I made that post about my Starlink being delivered 3 days ago. Except for yesterday of course.

Yes, the reason is simple – I’ve been busy testing and trying out the whole stuff.

So I’m going on to give you an honest review of it based on my own experience and not hearsay.

First, the cost and buying process.

I went to the STARLINK website and confirmed that the price there is around N378,000 while the monthly subscription is N38000. But I didn’t order it directly on the website.

I had to look for trusted dealers at Ikeja who import these in large quantities and resell them here in Nigeria. That way, I didn’t have to wait a week or two to have it delivered to my doorstep from the USA directly. It took only a few hours, roughly a day to get it. I hear they also deliver it nationwide.

The only drawback to buying from these dealers is the price. I bought mine for N420,000 from them. This also includes the cost of delivery.

To create my own personal account and activate the device, I paid the N38K monthly subscription on the Starlink website using my UBA normal bank debit card and it worked successfully.

Now if you want to buy it cheaper, you may buy it directly from the Starlink website using this same card or any other one you have. But if you are like me and don’t have the patience to wait for a week or more to have them deliver it, you can get it from trusted dealers at Ikeja for a higher price. I hear they also sell USA-used for a far lower price in case you don’t want to buy the brand new ones like I did. I didn’t ask them the price since I wasn’t interested in that. I like opening my own carton entirely new.

After setup, it took quite a lot of hours before the STARLINK network stabilized. Even at that, it was still coming ON and OFF intermittently. I’d be browsing and the network will just go off and return after a couple of minutes. This is a drawback considering the fact that MTN 5G only needs a couple of minutes to hit its maximum speed and stabilize as well.

However, after about 6 hours everything became perfectly stable. And that was when the magic began.

As expected, my Starlink network reached its full initialization and collection of data and entered its BEAST MODE.

The speed counted up to 123MBPS on the Google speed test!

That’s crazy. Yet I know it can even go beyond it.

For the past 3 days, we’ve connected 3 televisions streaming movies and songs at 4K and HD without any issues. We have also connected all our internet-enabled gadgets to it at blazing speed. To test it, I downloaded 6.6GB Software within 3 minutes. I know it can do it for less time depending on the device and location.

So far, no data usage warning or reminder, no notification showing up on the app warning us of how much we have left. No unnecessary pressures at all.

As someone who has used the MTN 5G device and now Starlink, I think Starlink is everything the MTN 5G device hopes to be.

The only major advantage is that the MTN 5G Router is mobile. You can quickly put it in your bag and go anywhere with it. It also comes with a power bank to ensure you don’t run out of power for 8 to 9 hours without having to plug it in to charge anywhere.

Also, the STARLINK Router doesn’t have any form of button on its body. It’s as if Elon Musk didn’t plan for it to be turned off after installation or they simply forgot that.

Also, for a device of this magnitude, it would have made sense to have a power backup like the MTN 5G Router.

In summary, I will advise low-data users to get the MTN 5G device. Especially if you can make do with the 4G speed for those living outside of 5G coverage areas.

However, if you consume so much data per month, or your business is such that you and your workers need to use so much data per month, please do yourself and your business a favour and go for Starlink. You may think you are enjoying the endless data you are buying on MTN5G whereas with just N38K you can have the freedom and speed to take your business to greater heights via the internet using Starlink.

This is my honest opinion of the device and I hope it counts for something for you.
